The X11 design
Where SHA-256 runs one hash function in tight loops, X11 chains 11 different functions (Blake, BMW, Groestl, JH, Keccak, Skein, Luffa, CubeHash, SHAvite, SIMD, ECHO) in sequence. The original goal was ASIC resistance through hash diversity — but ASICs ultimately implemented all 11 in silicon, making X11 mining as ASIC-dominated as any other major algorithm.
Why Dash mining is interesting
Dash has stable on-chain economics, an established treasury system that funds development, and InstantSend / PrivateSend features that give it real utility distinct from Bitcoin. X11 hardware is also notably energy-efficient compared to SHA-256 hardware on a watts-per-dollar-revenue basis at various points in the cycle.
