Blake3

Blake3 is a modern cryptographic hash function (released 2020) used by the Aleo network for proof-of-work. Blake3 is the successor to Blake2 in the Blake family — significantly faster, parallelizable, and tree-structured for incremental hashing.For ASIC mining, Blake3 is meaningfully different from SHA-256: the algorithm’s tree structure rewards hardware that can compute many parallel branches simultaneously. Goldshell and IceRiver have produced Blake3 ASICs (AL BOX III, AL BOX II Plus) — these are entry-tier units with low absolute power draw, suitable for home deployment.Aleo’s economics are speculative. The chain launched mainnet in late 2024; ALEO token price has been volatile, and the share of block rewards going to mining versus protocol-reserved allocations is governed by tokenomics that haven’t fully matured yet. Treat Aleo mining returns as variable. Don’t size your hardware purchase as if Aleo were Bitcoin-stable.
