Bitmain Antminer Lineup 2026: Which Model Fits Your Setup
Bitmain‘s Antminer lineup is the largest in the industry and easy to get lost in. There are 12+ active SKUs across SHA-256 alone, plus altcoin lines for Scrypt, Etchash, X11, and more. This guide simplifies the matrix into clear buy decisions for 2026.
The Bitmain product structure
Bitmain organizes hardware by algorithm + generation:
- S-series — Bitcoin SHA-256. The mainstream line. Numbers go up by generation (S19 → S21).
- L-series — Litecoin/Dogecoin Scrypt
- E-series — Ethereum Classic Etchash
- D-series — Dash X11
- KS-series — Kaspa kHeavyHash (we don’t currently stock)
- Z-series — Zcash Equihash
- X-series — Cryptonight (legacy, mostly discontinued)
Within S-series, suffixes indicate variant: S21 base model, S21 XP next-gen efficiency, S21 Pro commercial-density variant, S21 Hyd hydro-cooled, S21 Immersion factory-prepped for immersion tanks.
Bitcoin (SHA-256) — the active SKUs
| Model | Hash rate | J/TH | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antminer S21 | 200 TH/s | 17.5 | Mainstream, balanced |
| Antminer S21++ | 235 TH/s | 14.0 | Mid-tier flagship, value |
| Antminer S21 XP | 270 TH/s | 13.5 | Top air-cooled, default flagship |
| S21 XP+ Hyd | 480 TH/s | 12.0 | Hydro flagship, scale operations |
| S21 XP Immersion | 300 TH/s | 13.5 | Factory-prepped for immersion tanks |
The decision tree:
- Sub-$0.07/kWh power, single-rig home: S21 XP (13.5 J/TH). Best efficiency-to-price in air-cooled hardware.
- $0.07–0.10/kWh power, value-conscious: S21++ (14 J/TH). Better dollar-of-capex efficiency at slightly worse J/TH.
- 5+ rigs, sub-$0.05/kWh, capacity for hydro infrastructure: S21 XP+ Hyd (12 J/TH).
- Existing immersion tanks: S21 XP Immersion (13.5 J/TH, factory-prepped).
- Hosting deployments: any of the above; check facility’s cooling spec to match.
Altcoin lines
L-series (Scrypt — Litecoin/Dogecoin)
The Antminer L9 is the current flagship at ~17 GH/s. For Scrypt economics and merged-mining mechanics, see our Litecoin mining guide.
E-series (Etchash — Ethereum Classic)
The Antminer E11 at 9.5 GH/s. Several times more efficient than equivalent GPU mining. See ETC mining guide.
D-series (X11 — Dash)
The Antminer D9 at 770 GH/s. Commercial-grade for fleet deployments. See Dash mining guide.
KS-series (kHeavyHash — Kaspa)
KS-series exists (KS5 Pro at 21 TH/s) but isn’t in our current catalog. Specialty algorithm; check Kaspa-specific channels for hardware availability.
What’s discontinued / not worth buying
Models you’ll see in secondary markets but should mostly avoid:
- Antminer S9 / S9j / S15 — efficiency too poor (>90 J/TH) for any current electricity rate. Heat-source-only at this point.
- Antminer S17 / S17e / T17 — 50–80 J/TH efficiency. Marginal even at sub-$0.04/kWh power; difficult resale.
- Antminer S19 (original) / S19j — 30–37 J/TH. Marginal at moderate electricity rates; viable only at sub-$0.05/kWh and with reliable RMA channels for old hardware.
- Antminer S19 XP — 21 J/TH. Borderline viable; better than S19j but the S21 family beats it on every metric except absolute price.
- Antminer L7 — Older Scrypt unit. Inefficient relative to L9; only economic on cheap power.
- Antminer Z15 / Z15 Pro — Equihash; Zcash mining has small economics post-recent halvings. Skip unless you specifically want ZEC exposure.
Buying considerations
Warranty
Bitmain warranty is 180 days from delivery on new units (one of the shorter manufacturer warranties — Canaan offers 12 months, MicroBT 360 days). RMA process is well-organized but slow when shipping cross-border (4–6 week turnaround typical).
Firmware
Bitmain firmware is closed and signed. Aftermarket firmware (LuxOS, Vnish) exists for under-volting and custom features but voids warranty. See firmware comparison for trade-offs.
RMA logistics
Failed units typically need to be shipped to one of Bitmain’s regional repair centers. We handle this on your behalf for units purchased through us — pay shipping outbound, we cover return.
What we’d recommend
Most operators in 2026: Antminer S21 XP as the default flagship. It’s the best balance of efficiency, hash density, and capex across the lineup. Buy it if you have any reasonable power rate (sub-$0.10/kWh) and adequate ventilation.
Edge cases:
- Very tight budget: S21++
- Scale + cheap power: S21 XP+ Hyd (capex pays back in efficiency)
- Existing immersion infrastructure: S21 XP Immersion
- Multi-algo strategy: add an E11 (ETC) or D9 (Dash) for diversification
