Best Aeternity (AE) Miners — Cuckatoo32 ASICs
Aeternity (AE) is mined using the Cuckatoo32 algorithm — a memory-hard proof-of-work design originally developed for Grin and adapted by Aeternity. The network is mature (mainnet launched 2018) but smaller than majors, with smooth network-economics characteristics.
Why Cuckatoo32
The Cuckoo Cycle family (Cuckatoo, Cuckaroo, Cuckatoo32, etc.) was designed by John Tromp explicitly to be memory-bound rather than compute-bound. The intent: democratize mining by limiting ASIC advantage. ASICs ultimately did emerge — but they’re memory-rich silicon, with characteristically different efficiency curves than SHA-256 hardware.
Practical mining
AE mining has moderate dollar-per-watt returns relative to other algorithms, but the network has been operationally stable for years. A reasonable choice for miners who want algorithmic diversification away from Bitcoin without taking newer-chain speculative risk like Aleo. See How to Choose Your First Miner for guidance on alt-coin selection.
Hardware in our catalog
Goldshell AE Max II (540 Mh/s Cuckatoo32, 1320 W) — current-generation flagship. Earlier Goldshell AE Box and AE Pro units are still in circulation but the Max II has substantially better efficiency.
